Tips for Staying Healthy, Hydrated and Happy

The temps are rising, the sun is shining and it's the perfect time to focus on you with mindful summertime self-care practices. When summer schedules get busy with activities and gatherings, it's crucial to prioritize your health and wellness. Focus on one (or all!) of the following tips to help you show up as your brightest, most vibrant self this sunny season.

Color your meal plan with fresh, colorful produce.

Whether visiting your local farmers market or tending to your home garden, summer is the best time to color your plate with fruits and veggies. Whip up a fresh, green salad with a homemade salad dressing or try something new on the grill like fruit or vegetable kebabs. If you

want to enjoy the sweetest of blueberries or juiciest of tomatoes all year long, consider freezing. Store fresh blueberries (don’t rinse!) in airtight freezer bags or containers or have a tomato-canning party with a friend!

Wear sunscreen and hydrate.

It’s easy to love the sun and want to soak up as much as you can. But don’t let a bad sunburn ruin a fun day outside. Use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher before heading out. Make it convenient by keeping a bottle in the bathroom and applying right after you shower. If you plan on being outside throughout the day—at a picnic or out for a long walk, for example—you may want to apply SPF 30 or higher and reapply throughout the day. And don’t forget to hydrate! Keep a reusable water bottle handy and fill it often. Plain water too boring? Try infusing with fruit slices or make your own iced pops with these molds!

Set boundaries with loved ones.

This one’s tough but essential for your emotional health and well-being. While summer brings more opportunities for social connection, too many commitments can lead to burnout. Practice saying "no, thank you" to some invitations in order to leave room for restorative personal time. In between vacations, weddings and summer barbecues, carve out personal time to do something that brings you joy. It could be simple like reading a book, going for a walk or doing a whole lot of nothing. Honoring your needs allows you to show up as your healthiest self.

The summer months tend to fly by. Make the most of them by prioritizing self-care practices. As you move along with the joyful rhythms of the season, remember to stay rooted in habits that fill your cup. You'll carry summer's radiant glow with you throughout the year.
